An employeee with an alcohol or drug problem can decrease productivity, increase lateness and absenteeism, create a hostile work environment and damage an organisations reputation. Even more serious is the argument that a worker who is operating under the influence of alcohol or drugs could completely undermine the organisations' efforts to create a safe working environment. Likewise many staff encounter drug and alcohol related issues in their work. Our courses can be adapted to incorporate personal safety and managing challenging behaviour. Many organisations now have a substance misuse policy as part of their terms and conditions of employment. We believe that in order for the policy to achieve its aims, staff should be aware of the issues surrounding drugs and alcohol in the workplace and how it may affect them and their colleagues and the repercussion of their actions on issues such as health and safety and litigation. We believe that effective alcohol and drugs awareness training is more cost effective and a more positive approach than drug testing.
